Year 6 @  Special Primary School for the Deaf and Hard Hearing of Argyroupoli

Year 6 @  Special Primary School for the Deaf and Hard Hearing of Argyroupoli

Our visit to the Special Primary School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Argyroupoli was a unique opportunity to see and exchange experiences with our dear friends!

The activities offered to us were impressive and varied. From participating in classes taught in sign language to engaging in sports activities, every moment was filled with joy and surprises.

At the end of our visit, we handed over a poster with our school’s logo, on which our students had left their wishes. It was a small expression of our love and appreciation to our friends that we visited in their own place this time. We hope this experience will strengthen the ties between the two schools, and we look forward to our next meeting!

Yoga with children and teenagers at DES school

Yoga with children and teenagers at school.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), yoga is a safe and potentially effective therapy to help children and teens cope with physical and mental conditions and improve emotional and behavioural well-being. Back in India thousands of years ago, yoga was a practice that meant “to yoke” or “to join” the individual consciousness with universal consciousness, bringing ultimate harmony between the mind, body, and spirit. Yoga typically involves working on three aspects – physical postures, breathing exercises, and techniques to understand what is known worldwide as mindfulness.

DES @ ATHENS OLYMPIC MUSEUM

DES @ ATHENS OLYMPIC MUSEUM

Years 2 and 5 actively embarked on a captivating journey through time at the Athens Olympic Museum, immersing themselves in the rich tapestry of Olympic history. From the ancient origins of the Games in Olympia to their modern-day revival in 1896, they were not just passive observers but active learners, delving into the evolution of this global sporting phenomenon. Led by the visionary ideals of Pier de Coubertin and Dimitrios Vikelas, they gained insight into the enduring legacy of the Olympics and its profound impact on society.

Exploring the museum’s treasures, they were filled with awe and fascination at artefacts like Olympic torches and legends’ gear, each a testament to the triumphs and struggles of past champions. The highlight of their visit was the Athens 2004 Olympics exhibit, where they were not just transported back in time, but their hearts were also filled with the excitement and spectacle of this historic event. From the elaborate costumes of the opening ceremony to the exhilarating video projections capturing the essence of the Games, they were enthralled by the stories that unfolded before their eyes.

However, their journey did not end there. They also delved into the world of the Paralympics, discovering the remarkable feats of athleticism and resilience displayed by para-athletes from around the globe. Through engaging workshops and interactive exhibits, they learn and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of inclusion and accessibility in sports. As they left the museum, they carried memories of a day filled with discovery and inspiration and a renewed appreciation for the universal values of unity, perseverance, and excellence embodied by the Olympic and Paralympic movements.

Year 2 English IB PYP Summative Assessment on Inventions!

This week, our budding inventors embarked on an exhilarating journey of creativity and innovation. Armed with simple materials like cereal packages, milk cartons, and straws, they set out to bring their ingenious inventions to life.

From Homework Assistant Robots to Professional Cameras, TV sets, Robot Pets, and Walkie-Talkies, their imagination knew no bounds! Witnessing their inventions take shape in the classroom was nothing short of astounding.

Each student designed their invention, designed the real-world problems it could solve, and meticulously planned its function. Then, with hands-on determination, they assembled their creations, turning everyday objects into marvels of ingenuity.

But the journey didn’t end there! With a touch of linguistic flair, they articulated their inventions in English, detailing the materials used and providing step-by-step instructions for replication. Their ability to express complex ideas in a foreign language is truly remarkable.

Let us cheer these young innovators for their boundless creativity, unwavering determination, and impressive linguistic skills. We could not be prouder of their achievements! #InnovationAtItsFinest #YoungInventors #CreativeGeniuses #DESInteractiveEuropeanSchool #IBTogether
