Be part of a unique school community!
The educational journey at DES Middle School surpasses mere knowledge transfer. We approach the individual educational needs of each student with an innovative outlook that extends beyond conventional methods. Being at the forefront of educational innovation, we take pride in continually seeking fresh approaches to inspire and cultivate the development of our students.
Programme

At DES Middle School, education goes beyond the classroom. We offer a transformative journey that empowers students to grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally, preparing them for an ever-evolving global world.

Our bilingual curriculum nurtures cultural awareness and broadens perspectives, while our connection to the IB Middle Years Programme ensures a high academic standard aligned with modern educational needs. Through hands-on learning—projects, experiments, simulations, and real-world experiences—students are actively involved in their education, developing critical thinking, creativity, and confidence.

We believe that true learning begins with self-awareness and respect for diversity. Each student is seen as a unique individual with their own voice and potential. Our natural, thoughtfully designed campus encourages exploration and growth, while our dedicated educators inspire students to exceed expectations and lead their own learning journey.

Through active participation in European programmes and innovative teaching approaches, students don’t just prepare for the future—they shape it.

DES Middle School is more than just school. It’s where students learn, grow, and truly experience life.

Des Middle School is more than just a school – it’s a Life Experience!

Dr. Billie Konstantara
CEO/Founder

I was born in Germany. My father was a mechanical engineer, and my mother an interpreter of languages. From a young age, I loved to learn! I finished school in Kastella and university in Thessaloniki and Germany, where I completed my thesis at the Department of Psychology at Otto Friedrich Universität Bamberg. I have worked in the field of education since 1989. During my career, I developed an intense activity in research activities, assignments, seminars and conferences in pedagogy and psychology with a specialization in emotional and multiple intelligences. DES is the result of this long and arduous journey. DES is the school where children love to be themselves and love to learn!

Xenia Panayidou Principal/Head of English Dept.

I was born and raised in Cyprus, where my love for learning and creativity first took root. As a child, I imagined myself teaching in an invisible classroom, while also giving shape to my artistic spirit in many forms.

I grew up loving maths, languages, and especially literature. Although I initially considered careers in science, discovering William Shakespeare in my aunt’s old books led me to study English Language and Literature. I completed a BA in the field, with a thesis on Shakespeare’s works.

My interest in technology developed alongside my passion for literature and later shaped my teaching through a Master’s degree in Information and Communication Technologies in Education.

After teaching in various schools, I found my professional home at DES. Having worked for many years at DES Primary School, I now serve as a Language and Literature teacher and principal of DES Middle School, a unique microschool I am proud to be part of.

Maria Anagnostopoulou Head of Greek Dept.

My name is Maria Anagnostopoulou, and when I was little, I did two things: I pretended to be a lady in the mirror and a teacher. And I managed to achieve both! I have been a teacher for many years, and every new year, I still have the same concerns. I love literature, music, and traveling in real life but also and metaphorically. I believe in friendship and the power of human beings. The children surprise me every day because their simplicity and purity remind us that we must respect the child we hide inside.

Paraskevi Barboutsi IB MYP Coordinator

As a fetus, I was considered hyperactive. As a kid, my teachers always evaluated me as a very energetic child.
Growing up, things didn’t change much, but I came up with ways to channel my energy into something I love: literature, traveling, new experiences. Joining DES school was one of the best ideas I ever had. Passionate teachers require active, ambitious learners, and thankfully that’s the only kind of student I have ever encountered. As a teacher, I will never cease to admire the diversity and complexity of students’ personalities, learn from them, and participate in a life-changing process called learning.

Evan Chinis Head of Maths Dept.

I teach mathematics and STEM. I have always been fascinated by the wonders of nature, so I naturally fell in love with science. Soon I realised what a powerful tool maths is to understand the world around us and gravitated towards mathematics for further studies.

Christina Moutesidi Head of P.E. Dept.

From the Track… to the Classroom!”

I was born and raised in Athens. From a very young age, I remember myself running endlessly on a field. That’s how I came to love track and field, and sports in general. This passion led me to study at the School of Physical Education and Sport Science.
Today, I work as a Physical Education teacher in both primary and secondary school, while also coaching track and field. Working with children is a constant source of inspiration for me – every day they come up with something new, imaginative, and cheerful. Playing with them helps me stay young at heart.
I am a dynamic and positive person, and I love taking part in tournaments and competitions, where we explore the amazing world of sports together with the kids.
And just between us… since I’ve grown a bit too old to compete myself, I now go to the tournaments with the kids – so I can have a good excuse to be there!

Machi Doriza Head of Music Dept.

In this picture you can see my first music students! I had my dolls all set and ready for a music lesson at the age of 4. After 38 years of playing piano and 23 of teaching music, I have to admit that when words fail, music speaks louder than anything!
