DES enchants at the 15th Festival of Experiments of the Union of Greek Physicists

The Interactive European School is the only primary school in Athens that participated in the 15th cycle of the student event entitled “Physics Enchants”, organized with great success by the Union of Greek Physicists.

Our young students found themselves next to high school students and presented in detail the extraction of DNA from banana juice, impressing both young and old who visited the student exhibition with their knowledge and thorough preparation.

At the same time, they toured the exhibition area, experimented with the older children and attended interactive events, leaving their final touch with the school’s name on the university’s boards!

Secret Santa @ DES

Secret Santa, a beloved holiday tradition, takes on a literary twist in this unique version, where the exchange is centred around the gift of books. Participants come together, drawing names, anticipating the literary journey that awaits them. Each person becomes a bookish Secret Santa, carefully selecting a book they believe their chosen recipient will love.

In the weeks leading up to the grand reveal, bookish surprises are discreetly left for the recipients, tucked away in secret locations, or sent anonymously. The gifts, of course, are carefully chosen books, each thoughtfully selected to match the tastes and preferences of the recipient. Whether it is a classic novel, a contemporary bestseller, or a hidden gem in a specific genre, the goal is to share the joy of reading and introduce the recipient to a captivating literary world.

The excitement builds as participants immerse themselves in selecting the perfect book, channelling their creativity to find a title that will resonate with the recipient. The final exchange celebrates shared literary passions as participants reveal their identities and discuss the books chosen.

This book-themed Secret Santa adds a touch of intellectual delight to the holiday season and fosters a sense of community and connection through the shared love of reading. It is a celebration of literature, camaraderie, and the joy of giving and receiving the gift of a good book.

ALL ABOUT DEMOCRACY- DES ELECTIONS 2023

School elections at the elementary level offer numerous benefits, fostering a sense of civic engagement and responsibility among young students. These elections provide a platform for children to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of the democratic process. Students learn about decision-making, communication, and respecting diverse opinions by participating in campaigns and voting. These experiences contribute to their overall personal growth and help create a positive school community.

“Democracy is not merely a form of governance; it is the harmonious symphony of diverse voices, an ode to the collective wisdom woven through the threads of individual freedoms, where the strength of a society lies not in its conformity, but in the resilience of its inclusive dialogue.” – Socrates

“Voting is not only our right. It is our power!” Loung Ung

“Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.”
– Franklin D. Roosevelt

YOGA: A transformative experience

Introducing yoga in DES schools can be  a transformative experience, fostering trust and connection among students. Yoga, emphasising mindfulness, breath control, and physical postures, provides a holistic approach to well-being. In a primary school setting, it becomes a shared journey where students learn to trust their bodies and abilities and to trust and connect with their peers. Partner yoga poses and group activities encourage collaboration, communication, and a sense of community. Through yoga, children develop a heightened awareness of themselves and others, creating a positive environment that nurtures trust and establishes a foundation for solid interpersonal connections. The practice promotes physical health and cultivates a mindful and empathetic atmosphere, which is essential for building a supportive and harmonious school community.

Exploring World Religions @ DES

Our students are keen on learning more about world religions precisely for the above reasons. This engagement reflects our commitment to fostering global understanding and cultivating respect for diverse perspectives. #year5 #IBformativeassessment #worldreligions

Miles & Soul – DES Creative Writing & Illustration Lab

Distances are annihilated when there is a genuine will to communicate

No matter how far we are, Miles and Soul and the DES Creative Writing and Illustration Workshop bring us closer!

Tilos is the island that will write its fairy tale with us this year. It is a true paradise that won the 2020 RESponsible Island award.*

We know his students and his story!

At this point, children’s imagination creates heroes and gives flesh and bones to the dwarf elephants!

Do you know how they lived in Tilos?

Let us do a historical review together…

“The last elephant of Europe arrived at Tilos by swimming from Asia Minor or Kos or Nisyros. There, he was isolated and became a dwarf, as happens with other elephants that live in isolated parts of the world, in Japan, Indonesia, California, or with deer in the Mediterranean and hippos in Cyprus”, explained Mr Theodorou, who participates in the excavations. In the cave since the 1980s.

* The award recognises the island’s innovative energy solutions and contribution to a sustainable, climate-friendly Europe.

‘Discover the world of the tree’ – International conference

🌍 Exploring the World of the Tree! 🌳✨

The “World of the Tree” conference, the final part of our Erasmus journey was a unique experience. 💻🌿 The students who participated in the conference along with the assigned teacher had the opportunity to reflect on every new experience and knowledge acquired over the duration of the erasmus programme and present it to their partners through an online presentation.

Being part of this international community not only expanded our understanding of nature but also connected us deeply to diverse cultures.

Reflecting on this incredible adventure, we’re grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to a sustainable future. 🌱🌏
