DES promotes excellence!

Congratulations to our students!

For the 3rd year in a row, the Union of Greek Physicists is visiting the DES to give our students the prizes for the Panhellenic Physics competition!

The vice-presidents of EEF Panagiotis Fildisis and Paraskevi Klideris honoured our school with their presence; they gave many congratulations for the DES distinctions every year at the pan-Hellenic level in Physics and offered the prizes of EEF to the students who excelled in last year’s competition.

Among these prizes was the first prize, which was given only to 21 students in Greece among the thousands who competed!

DES school in an ocean-cleaning expedition

Today, our 6th graders had the fantastic opportunity to witness an ocean-cleaning expedition organized by #dmarin and #HELMEPA.

During this field trip at Marina Zea, we explored the sea’s wonders, learning about its vital role, the challenges it faces, and how we can make a difference. We engaged in hands-on activities, such as witnessing the ongoing seabed cleaning and meeting marina divers, reinforcing our understanding of marine conservation. At the end of the trip, we had the chance to drive NEMO, a remote-controlled ocean-cleaning robot! A huge thank you to all contributors for the fantastic gifts and an eye-opening experience 🐬

DES School in nature

DES  school children enjoy a myriad of privileges because their educational setting is immersed in nature, with breaks spent amidst animals. The natural environment becomes an expansive canvas for learning, offering students hands-on experiences with flora and fauna during their breaks. These nature breaks provide a refreshing interlude, allowing children to recharge their minds and bodies in a serene setting. Interactions with animals, whether observing them in their habitats or participating in activities like animal-assisted therapy, contribute to the children’s emotional well-being and foster a sense of compassion. Nature breaks promote physical activity as children engage in outdoor play, explore the natural surroundings, and enhance motor skills. Moreover, the tranquil and open setting nurtures a positive mental attitude, encouraging creativity and imaginative play. In this holistic learning environment, primary kids are privileged to connect with the natural world, fostering a love for learning beyond the traditional classroom.

DES welcomes the Special Primary School for deaf and hard-of-hearing students of Argyroupoli

DES welcomes the Special Primary School for deaf and hard-of-hearing students of Argyroupoli

DES loves to create bonds of love with other schools! Today, we welcomed ten students of the special primary school for the deaf and hard of hearing in Argyroupoli. The students of F welcomed them with Christmas spirit and received the international sign language flag, a gift from the visiting children! A discussion between the children followed, which had everything: new knowledge, humour, sweetness, and above all, empathy. Ultimately, we all played together, and the joy of playing brought us closer. We said goodbye with smiles and mutual promises of the next meeting!

“The Tearful Christmas of 1922” YEAR 5

 “The Tearful Christmas of 1922”

“My name is Alice Magi. However, it does not mean I am also the main heroine if I am in a hurry to introduce myself to you. I am a storyteller.” The 5th grade students read an excerpt from Didos Sotiriou’s “Into the Flames” book. Discussing the historical events of that time and the Asia Minor disaster, they shared relevant stories of their ancestors with their classmates. The text of Didos Sotiriou inspired them, as a result of the creative writing class, to create theatre performance posters with anti-war messages, exploring the different types of writing and textual genres.
