“Voices of Peace” Summative project IB unit 3 Year 5

Our Year 5 students express their thoughts and insights on Peace in this summative project for our IB unit on Peace. The project revolves around creating a video titled “Voices of Peace,” where students are interviewed and share their perspectives on various aspects of Peace.

The video  features a series of thought-provoking questions, such as “What does peace mean to you?” and “Who is Nelson Mandela?” These questions are carefully designed to encourage critical thinking, reflection, and a deeper understanding of Peace from different angles.

Students answer these questions and have the opportunity to express themselves creatively. They must incorporate visuals, drawings, or symbols representing their Peace ideas. This multimedia approach makes the project visually engaging and allows for diverse expressions.

Through this project, students will enhance their understanding of Peace and develop valuable skills such as effective communication, empathy, and creative expression.

“Butterfly project” @ DES (International Holocaust Remembrance Day)

How do you talk to children about the Holocaust?

How do you put so much terror and absurdity into a child’s soul?

The goal of this program is for the students to learn stories of children who have lost their lives while contributing to creating a memorial space in the school from ceramic butterflies made by the students.

Holocaust Remembrance Day is crucial to keep alive the memory of the victims and highlight the importance of human dignity. Through actions such as events, educational programs and symbolic ceremonies, we revive the events and express solidarity with those who suffered the brutality of the Holocaust.

The necessity of remembrance on this day highlights our obligation to learn from the past and uphold the values of freedom and justice. Through these actions, we keep the legacy of history alive so that similar tragedies never happen again.

ARCHERY @ DES

In the enchanting setting of our primary school nestled amidst the embrace of nature, archery training becomes a unique and captivating endeavour for young minds. The rhythmic twang of bowstrings and the gentle whisper of wind through leaves create a symphony of sounds as eager students learn the art of archery under the open sky. With bows in hand and arrows poised, they develop focus, discipline, and precision, all while surrounded by the tranquillity of the natural world. The lush greenery serves as both a backdrop and a teacher, instilling a sense of connection to the environment. Archery training in this idyllic setting cultivates physical skills and fosters a deep appreciation for nature, blending education and recreation in a harmonious dance that leaves lasting impressions on the young archers’ hearts and minds.
