Philosophy

“We want children to love learning and to become happy explorers of the world.
We designed a school that develops the students’ interests, cultivates their talents,  and promotes effortless learning, thus demonstrating that knowledge is a natural consequence of their evolution, an active element of their personality.”

Dr. Billie Konstantara

Founder/CEO

DES is the first bilingual school in Greece to combine the internationally recognized International Baccalaureate Programme, which aims to prepare students to become active participants in a lifelong learning journey, with the “Theory of Multiple Intelligences”. At DES every student is distinct, every student loves to learn. Knowledge, skills, talents discovery of solutions are some of the most essential characteristics of our students, the future citizens of the world.

Dr. Billie Konstantara founded four very successful schools, where she applies the most innovative educational methods and theories. The innovative programme that she created follows the objectives of the analytical programme of studies but achieves them

through differentiated teaching, which adapts the teaching method to the talent of the student, the way in which the student learns best, and consistently detects their learning readiness.

The primary objective of the school’s educational programme aims at achieving harmony between the cognitive and the emotional elements of every human being. This is why it is based on the “Theory of Multiple Intelligences” and emotional aptitude, through an excellently structured and scientifically documented approach. Furthermore, all subjects are considered as primary subjects. Language courses and mathematics are taught with the same emphasis as sports, music, art, literature, and STEM courses!

Multiculturalism in Practice

IB Programme
The International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) aims to inspire young learners to investigate across and beyond the curriculum while taking action in the lifelong and fascinating journey of learning. Exploring through inquiry and personal experiences strengthens knowledge and deepens understanding as students engage with global, topical, and “big picture” questions. At the heart of the IB are the learner profile attributes: Inquirers, Thinkers, Communicators, Risk-takers, Knowledgeable, Principled, Caring, Open-minded, Balanced and Reflective, which nurture internationally minded students ready to become responsible global citizens and effective leaders. Through concept-driven, transdisciplinary learning, the IB places emphasis on developing knowledge, skills, attitudes, and action in a holistic way. Central to this are the ATL skills (Approaches to Learning), which support students in becoming independent learners by strengthening their ability to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate with others, manage their learning, and apply their understanding in new contexts.

The International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) cultivates learners who question, explore, and act, building knowledge and understanding that extend far beyond the classroom.

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) offers students a dynamic and engaging learning experience where inquiry, content-based and experiential learning reinforce transdisciplinary skills across subject areas such as Language, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Arts and Personal, Social and Physical Education (PSPE). Within this framework, children explore ideas through meaningful connections, guided by transdisciplinary themes that link their learning to the wider world. This approach fosters curiosity, creativity, independence, and social-emotional growth while encouraging multiple languages and valuing each child’s unique identity.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) builds on the foundations of the PYP by offering an advanced and balanced curriculum across eight subject groups, including Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Design, and Physical and Health Education. Students are assessed through clearly defined criteria in each subject. In the final year (Year 10), the Personal Project gives each student the opportunity to pursue an area of personal interest in depth, applying their skills to design, research, and present a significant independent project. The MYP prepares students for future academic challenges while strengthening their sense of identity, responsibility, and international-mindedness.
