Multiculturalism in Practice

“Multiculturalism in Practice” at DES School — A Celebration of Love, Friendship, and Easter Hope

The DES School is more than just a modern, bilingual European institution; it is a living example of how love and friendship flourish through multicultural understanding. By combining international educational standards (IB) with deep-rooted Greek traditions, DES creates a nurturing space where students grow academically and as compassionate and open-hearted individuals.

In a world that often highlights differences, DES embraces them. Through multilingual learning and inclusive education, students from over 20 countries — from Greece to China, Iran, the USA, and beyond — come together to share, learn, and connect. Here, language is not a barrier but a bridge, and diversity is not a challenge but a celebration.

DES’s small, family-like community encourages strong bonds and meaningful friendships across borders and cultures. Students learn to appreciate each other’s stories, traditions, and values, building a foundation of empathy and love beyond the classroom.

Celebrating international holidays alongside Greek traditions reinforces this spirit of unity — whether it is the joyful rhythms of Chinese New Year, the warmth of Nowruz, or the sparkle of Easter. These shared moments of joy become memories that unite hearts, reminding us that the most beautiful celebrations are those we share.

One of the most cherished traditions is the International Food Festival, where students and families share their favourite dishes and cultural flavours. It is a day full of tastes, laughter, and stories — a true expression of the love that brings the DES community together.

As we welcome the spirit of Easter — a time of renewal, hope, and light — let us carry with us the message that DES teaches every day:

🌸 Friendship knows no borders.

🌍 Love speaks every language.

🐣 And peace begins with understanding.

Happy Easter from the heart of our multicultural family to yours —

With love, unity, and friendship.

The Hellenic Mathematical Society at DES

The Hellenic Mathematical Society at DES

The tradition of awarding excellence across all scientific fields continues for DES students. On April 7th, we welcomed the President of the Hellenic Mathematical Society, Mr Argyris Fellouris, and the Secretary-General, Mr Yiannis Tyrlis, who spoke to our students about the value of critical and logical thinking. They also personally presented the awards to the top-performing students of the National Mathematics Proficiency Competition “Pythagoras.”

However, the celebrations did not stop there. The school also honoured students who excelled in the National STEM and Robotics Competition, achieving top rankings and earning the Special Collaboration Award!

In addition, Mr. Krasakis was recognized for his invaluable contribution to the school’s success in the competition.

Congratulations to Artem Kondatskov, a DES student, for his global achievement in winning the gold medal at the STEM Olympiad!

DES promotes excellence in all subjects and scientific fields and warmly congratulates all our students, parents, and educators for the remarkable academic distinctions our students continue to achieve year after year.

Easter Egg Hunt: The Search Begins! 🐰🔍

Easter Egg Hunt: The Search Begins! 🐰🔍

Although the rain kept us from using our fantastic school grounds, the Easter spirit could not be dampened! We moved the festivities into the gym, bringing laughter, energy, and excitement to life.

The students had a blast hunting for Easter eggs, dashing around with big smiles and little baskets. Eggs were cleverly hidden, but they managed to find dozens with teamwork, curiosity, and a sprinkle of Easter magic! 🪺🐣

Of course, all that egg-hunting fun was sweetly rewarded with delicious treats. 🍬🍫

A huge thank you to our wonderful parents—none of this would have been possible without your support. Your help and enthusiasm made this day truly special.

It was a joyful, unforgettable experience filled with colour, laughter, and Easter cheer. Happy Easter from our young explorers!

World Stray Animals Day @ DES

World Stray Animals Day 🦮🐈

It is a time to show less fortunate animals love, attention and compassion. This day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the millions of suffering animals globally. Stray animals can be everywhere. They can be dogs, cats or any other animal that has been abandoned or lost.

We started the day by walking around the school and seeing every animal we care for. 🫏 Then, our brilliant students discussed animal rights and pointed out factors contributing to the problem of stray animals and ways we can help them. 👩🏻‍🤝‍👨🏼🐕 We all agreed that the best way to help is to adopt a pet instead of buying one. Kanela accompanied us during our class, reminding us of the love and devotion dogs show us.

World Stray Animal Day reminds us that we are all responsible for caring for the animals that share our planet. Education is the key to the future for strays, working animals and pets. By learning how to take action, we can make a difference in their lives and create a better world for all animals.

Great Success for the Interactive European School DES! 🏆

The heart of DES beats in Larissa! At the Panhellenic STEM and Educational Robotics Competition finals, the DES ROBOTS team stood out among the best robotics teams from all over Greece, earning yet another distinction.

Our team, DES ROBOT, participated in the Open Grade 3–6 Elementary category of the 2025 Panhellenic STEM & Educational Robotics Competition — a well-established institution with a history of over 10 years, where thousands of schools and robotics centres from across Greece compete each year in creativity, innovation, and collaboration!

🚀 Among more than 100 teams competing in our category, through hard work and team spirit, we were among only five teams that qualified from the Attica preliminaries and made it to the grand finals alongside 25 other teams!

🔹 A unique achievement that highlights the excellent collaboration among our team members!

🔹 A journey of knowledge, innovation, and STEM that has only just begun!

💡 We continue strong!

We are incredibly proud of the massive success of the DES team being awarded—this recognition is not just an honour but a testament to the passion, talent, and dedication behind every step of the journey.

A very special and heartfelt thank you goes to Alexander Krasakis, a crucial and irreplaceable member of our team. Nothing would have been possible without his presence, commitment, and brilliant mind. Last year, Alexander brought us closer to Planet Mars—an unforgettable and defining moment for DES.

What makes this award even more meaningful is that our students didn’t just compete against peers but stood out among major commercial organizations. Their achievement is extraordinary and fills us with pride.

On April 7th, we will hold a special ceremony at DES to celebrate the DESRobots team and honour Alexander Krasakis.

Thank you to Marianna, Kostas, and our outstanding students, who inspire us daily.

Let us keep dreaming big and reaching for the stars!

Learning Greek through Play…

Learning Greek through Play…

Play is an excellent tool for learning Greek as a second or foreign language, as it combines fun with learning. 🤸🤸‍♀️📝 Through games, the students of the international department were exposed to the Greek language naturally and effortlessly, which enhanced their understanding and use of vocabulary and grammar. 👥🔤🎢 Moreover, they practised their speaking skills in an enjoyable environment and developed communication and collaboration skills! 🗣️💬🌈 The experiential learning offered through play increased the students’ motivation and participation, contributing to more effective language acquisition.

Nowruz: A timeless celebration of renewal and new beginnings*🇮🇷

Nowruz, meaning “new day” in Persian, is far more than just the start of a new year -it is an ancient celebration of life, rebirth, and the triumph of light over darkness. 🌠 It lasts 13 days and is celebrated in many countries, especially in central Asia. 🌍 Our little GrSL adventurers delved into Persian culture and enjoyed learning about it! 👩🏻‍🤝‍👨🏼🎉

At DES, culture is about sharing and acceptance! The Iranian families of our school organized the celebration of Nowruz, the Iranian New Year. We sincerely thank them for this and wish them a heartfelt Happy Nowruz!

✅ We watched fun educational videos about Nowruz and learnt about its traditions. 🇮🇷

✅ We discussed the symbols of the celebration and the traditional table Haft-Seen and learned the vocabulary in Greek. 🪻🪙🥚

✅ We created a Kahoot quiz and checked our knowledge about Nowruz! 👩🏻‍💻

✅ The students made some amazing crafts such as hyacinths, coins, sprouts and the fire that is used for jumping above it 🔥
