“The time… chest” from the Creative Writing and Illustration Laboratory

DES’ “Creative Writing and Illustration Workshop” in the 2022-2023 school year created a remarkable fairy tale that hides a treasure inside.

So in  “The time … chest”  that will travel into the future and be picked up by the children of the next generations, a priceless treasure will be hidden… Guess who it could be!

The students who participated in the writing of the fairy tale will present their fairy tale to all classes in the coming school year, strengthening skills intertwined with the philosophy of the IB -PYP program.

Each student will be able to illustrate their copy, giving a personal touch to the story’s plot!

Let us not forget that the same story touches each of us differently…

Τhe Hellenic Mathematical Society @ DES

Congratulations to our students!
At DES, innovation and excellence are intertwined, while the awards for excellent student performance have now become an institution for our school.
Today, the Hellenic Mathematical Society gave a special award to 6 DES students who achieved the absolute best score of 100% in the 17th Panhellenic “Game and Mathematics” competition or the “Little Euclid” exam.
We warmly thank the chairman of the competition committee, Mr. Argyris Fellouris, the general secretary of EME, Mr. Giannis Tyrlis, and the treasurer of EME, Mr. Giorgos Baralis, for the great honour.
We congratulate our excellent students and wish them always to be healthy and excel in all the challenges they encounter inside and outside school.

Our School’s Garden Makeover

There is nothing better than a field trip only some meters away from the doorstep of our classroom! Our vegetable garden has just undergone a fantastic renovation, and we could not be more thrilled about it! 🌻🌿 We wish our garden to become a hub for environmental education, where our young learners can engage in interactive lessons about nutrition, healthy eating habits, and the importance of taking care of our planet. 🌍💚 Let us get our hands dirty! #IBLearnerProfile #caring #sharingtheplanet #GardenMakeover #SustainableEducation #NatureLovers

New European collaboration for DES

DES is launching a new European collaboration with ABY International Educational Group, a consortium of schools from Spain, Ireland, and now Greece.

The ABY group was founded in 1940 by Mercedes Afuera Cortes and currently consists of 4 schools: Bristol School, Spain, Afuera School, Spain, Afuera College and Youghal International College, Ireland. These are bilingual schools with an English-Spanish programme.

Our school is a member of this group, as it is a bilingual, IB school with a multicultural identity that can successfully participate in European programmes.

As part of this partnership, DES will participate in the Youghal Summer Camp organized by Youghal International College every summer in Ireland, that offers an educational and enriched programme for the participation of students from other countries. The programme is aimed at children aged 6-12.

Information about the programme and camp details can be found in the BROCHURE.

WELCOME TO DES YEAR 1 OF 2023

WELCOME, YEAR 1 of 2023
We embarked on an exciting adventure, welcoming our first graders and their parents to DES Primary School! Through a captivating presentation, we explored the enchanting tale of Freddy Fish and his environmental journey.
With interactive elements and sensory containers, we discovered the importance of caring for our planet and fostering a love for nature. At DES Primary School, we believe in nurturing a sustainable future and empowering our young learners to become responsible caretakers of the Earth.
Welcome to DES Primary School, where learning meets nature, and every day holds the promise of discovery.

Jerry Kyriakopoulos@ the International Young Philosopher Awards

Jerry Kyriakopoulos, a DES student, was awarded by the University College of Dublin (UCD) in the context of the International Young Philosopher Awards (IYPA)

We are delighted and proud to advise that Jerry’s project on Belonging was awarded Runner Up for the age category 12-13 Years of the International Young Philosopher Awards 2023. The International Young Philosopher Awards (IYPA) is the University College of Dublin (UCD) philosophical initiative; since the launch of the Irish Young Philosopher Awards in 2017, it has become a major intellectual and educational event in Ireland which has also grown into an International Award forum that invites students from around the world to partake in philosophical thinking and discussion.

This is a prestigious award, and the IYPA Team commended Jerry on his project’s outstanding effort and the quality and depth of philosophical thinking. The UCD’s IYPA team also wrote that this is a beautiful achievement, especially given that so many outstanding projects were submitted; they hope that Jerry will keep doing philosophy and continue his philosophical thinking as he is gifted.

This year’s core subject selected by UCD was belonging as it “seems to constitute a crucial aspect of our lives and has been related to a fundamental need for human interdependence or to be accepted as a valuable member of a group, for example, in terms of family, friends, colleagues, nation-states, the world, and so on. Belonging becomes ever more important when people face sudden displacement because of war, poverty, and the climate crisis, or due to experiences of exclusion, racism, gender and sexual discrimination, for example.”
