Many Languages One Heart | International Mother Language Day @ DES

Many Languages One Heart | International Mother Language Day @ DES
In our Greek as a Foreign Language class, we celebrated the beauty of linguistic diversity through experiences that honoured every child’s voice and identity. Students created their own multilingual mini dictionary, translating meaningful words into their mother tongues and discovering that language is far more than communication. It carries memories, emotions, culture, and a sense of belonging.
Together, we designed a classroom poster with the flags of all the countries represented in our community, a powerful reminder that although our journeys begin in different places, learning brings us together. The celebration concluded with students recording a video in which they spoke proudly in their native languages, sharing a living piece of who they are with confidence and joy.
On International Mother Language Day, we celebrated more than languages. We celebrated stories, heritage and the richness that diversity brings into our classroom every single day. Because when children feel heard in their own language, they feel truly seen.
