HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY | 27 JANUARY @ DES | YEAR 6

Today, we paused to remember the Holocaust with respect, responsibility, and empathy. We did not choose fear or shocking images. We chose understanding. We talked about what happens when people lose their rights, their voice, and their safety, and what this means for us today, here and now.
Memory is not only about the past. It is a way to learn how to recognise exclusion, racism, and injustice, even when they appear quietly, through small everyday actions. As part of our activity, we created a “Memory Suitcase” with five small symbolic objects representing identity, family, hope, the future, and courage.
For us, memory leads to responsibility. We remember so we can act with respect, protect human dignity, and have the courage to speak up when we see injustice. We remember so that we can act. We remember to protect human dignity today.
